I've noticed something about gardening. You set out to do one
thing and pretty soon, you're doing something else, which leads to some
other thing, and so on. By the end of the day, you look at the shovel
stuck in the half dug daylily bed and wonder what on earth you've been
doing. ~Author Unknown
This was sent to me. Thanks! Really like it.
Like yesterday ..... began pulling weeds in one flower bed, then picked the tomatoes, fed the goats, fed kitty, walked along the fence in pasture, drove around yard in Gator, rain inside to avoid rain, ate sandwich, watched one episode of Young and Restless, weeding in another area, transplant several houseplants, talked on the cell phone to family, ran away from goundhog hiding in high grass, then back to original weed patch. How did I get soooooo side tracked? And not ONE thing accomplished! Had lots of fun flitting from one to another, though. :)
Around 630 AM had .6" of rain. Everything is nice and soggy. And so beautiful. I always like the look after a rain. Outdoors has such a clean/bright/alive appearance.
So will begin again today. Not in the original weed patch, that was the mistake yesterday! New area, with camera in hand. Not weeding yet either, too wet!!!! So will photograph a while. That should keep me more focused. Love that camera!!!!!
Hope you have a good day. And until next time, Happy Gardening.

Then followed that beautiful season...
Summer....
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer ~F. Scott Fitzgerald
Yes, it official, summer began this morning at 1:04. And the weather here is absolutely gorgeous. Lows in 50's, low humidity, bright sun, cloudless sky ... perfect for late June. I'll take any day of the week!!!
So how are those daylilies growing in your yard/garden? Here at Oakville Farm .... Oh my! Blossoms are everywhere. With the great amounts of rain this spring ... daylilies, weeds, bulbs, trees, shrubs, yes just everything is looking good.
Hope you have a good day and until next time, Happy Gardening.

Our flag means all that our fathers meant in the Revolutionary War. It means all that the Declaration of Independence meant. It means justice. It means liberty. It means happiness.... Every color means liberty. Every thread means liberty. Every star and stripe means liberty. ~Henry Ward Beecher
Happy Flag Day to one and all.
From the middle of May until the last of July, I display flags, red/white/blue banners, bunting, Uncle Sam items ... a very patriotic time for us all. Yes?
Had more rain yesterday afternoon, about 1/4". And with that storm blowing thru, it brought, cooler, drier, bright blue skies and an awesome sunshine. 77 degrees day. So fantastic.
All for this time. Hope everyone has had a good day. The weekend is upon us ... please drive safely. And until next time, Happy Gardening.

Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair... ~ Susan Polis Schutz
I like to dance, I like the sun, I like to pick flowers ... how fun that sounds to have wildflowers in my hair!!!! A hippie. From the 70's. Yep! Sounds like me!!!
So how are your flower beds lookin'? The daylilies here at Oakville Farm are showing themselves. Had so many distractions today, did not get to photograph them. That is certainly on my list for 'morrow.
Do you ever have a day where you think everything is going smoothly, then when you sit down in the late afternoon and reflect over the day ... well, things might not have gone so smoothly??? It was one of those days here. Like, had plans, then an unexpected visitor, then phone calls, then family issues, then grocery store, then bill payment, then school, then home, then dinner. Oh my, sounds like a typical day. So where did the plans unravel? Will contemplate on that for a bit.
Hope you had a good day.
And until next time, Happy Gardening.

The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain. ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Tropical Storm Andrea is gone from here. She left behind more than 5" of rain here at Oavkille Farm. Driveway washed out in a few places, quick stream of flowing water ran thru daylilies, water standing under the goat shelter!!!! And speaking of goats, have not seen them for 2 days. They do not like to get their hooves wet. Have found high ground, Somewhere in and around the pasture.
Have been outdoors and the things I see!!!! Much more green, shrubs laying down from rains/wind ... I was in awe!!!
Goin' out again. Hope you have a good Saturday and until next time, Happy Gardening.

No two gardens are the same. No two days are the same in one garden. ~Hugh Johnson
True, oh so true. My brother-in-law always has a beautiful vegetable garden. So clean, well manicured, well thought out. And my sister has the same in her flower garden. All so beautiful. Strive to be like them in my older age!!!
Daylilies are a very forgiving perennial that should be in EVERY yard/garden. Good green foliage, drought tolerant, disease free. Just a perfect plant.
This is the daylily Hemerocallis Cabbage Flower. It is an early bloomer. Double yellow. Nice thick scapes. Blooms stay close to the foliage. A good contrast of color between bright yellow and rich green.
Hope you will find that one daylily (then two, then three, then MORE daylilies) will enter your life. They will provide many years of enjoyment.
Hope you have a good day and until next time, Happy Gardening.

Arranging a bowl of flowers in the morning can give a sense of quiet in a crowded day - like writing a poem or saying a prayer. ~ Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Flower arranging, sunshine .. two good parts of ones day. :)
So how are your daylilies? Have four new bloomers today. Just can inside for a glass of iced tea and to pick up camera. Gonna "shoot me some daylilies"!!!!
Hope you have a good day and until next time, Happy Gardening.
