I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show. ~Andrew Wyeth

Yes, this is winter. Aren't we glad to be able to experience each wonderful season? Weather has turned cold here for the next couple of days. Yesterday was windy ... gusty to say the least. Check out OFW for current weather conditions here at Oakville Farm.

Winter has been very very mild this year. Flowers/plants/shrubs are blooming that should be dormant. Trees that should be resting, are setting buds. Oh my! Mother Nature has so much to
offer during the winter months....

Such as, bird watching. Do you set out birdseed feeders? Suet feeders? if you don't set out feeders, there is much fowl activity going on outside your window. Consider participating in the annual bird count activity for several days during the month of February. The 15th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count is set for February 17 - 20, 2012. Make it a family event, getting
children involved....ponder, how many different birds will we see? What colors of birds will we see? Who will see the most birds? Get ready with binoculars, pencil, paper. The website has a good page for "kids". Look out from your kitchen window, your work window, from a classroom window....see the wonder of birds.

You may see a Robin

Or a Cardinal

Hope you have a good day. And keep looking out that window ... at all Mother Nature has to offer.

Our Oakville Farm website is still down for maintenance, however it should be up and running soon. Will let you know. Until then, keep your daylily list handy, we may just have the daylily to fit your needs.

Until next time, Happy Gardening.
