It is good to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.  ~James Douglas

Do you spend time outdoors every day?  Photography and outdoors has always been a part of my life. So guess they will always be on my list!  That is on "My Bucket List".   The bucket list ... a kick start to your life, a sharing of your goals, hey, just a place to keep track!  Guess I have a short or easy bucket list, huh?  Want to be able to spend time outdoors, spend time with family/friends, oh yeah, travel.  Yet, I like to "Stay in the moment" ... enjoy the smell of freshly mowed grass, feel the light mist rain on my skin, the cold winter breeze in my face, watch a sunrise or sunset.

With all that said, I must stop this and get outdoors.  Maybe snap a photo or two, spray a few weeds, walk among the daylilies.  If you are interested in purchasing a great perennial, check us out, Oakville Farm, for some great buys.

Hope you have a good day and until next time, Happy Gardening.

"Is it so small a thing
To have enjoy'd the sun,
To have lived light in the spring,
To have loved,
To have thought,
To have done..."

-  Matthew Arnold

And the small things in life are so worth the life, hey?

Calm, quiet day.  Weather forecast is for low humidity, slight breeze, mild temp and mix of sun and clouds.  How good is that?  So, what will be on the agenda for the outdoors?  A camera, a book, large glass of sweet tea ... sounds just like a wonderful plan for a wonderful day.

Hope you have a good day and until next time, Happy Gardening.

"Be like a flower and turn your face to the sun."
- Kahlil Gibran

Hope everyone has had a good week.  Been busy here at Oakville Farm.  Rainshowers each day.  Has kept me away from daylily field work, today however, is beginning to look like a sunny, dry day in the field!!!

As I looked out yesterday afternoon, so many scapes are shooting above the leaves, buds are setting on the tops, and color is showing.  What daylilies are blooming in your yard/garden?  Which is your favorite?  My favorite? I have a different answer to that question, daily.  Red, white, yellow, orange, cream, near black, purple?  Ruffled edge, eyezone, self?  Hmmmmm, not sure.  So will go outdoors now and look about.

Hope you have a good day and until next time, Happy Gardening.

"If you've never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom, maybe your soul has never been in bloom."
-  Audra Foveo

My soul blooms, does yours?  I love each and every color that appears in nature.  Each glance ... under, in, on, around, above, below, beside ... each brings awe to me!  Found two more daylily cultivars that were blooming today.  And many, many scapes.  I look forward to each time spent outdoors, in and around the daylilies.

Goin' back out to photograph.  C U later and as always, have a good day and until next time, Happy Gardening.

"May and June.  Soft syllables, gentle names for the two best months in the garden year: cool, misty mornings gently burned away with a warming spring sun, followed by breezy afternoons and chilly nights.  The discussion of philosophy is over; it's time for work to begin."
-  Peter Loewer

How is everyone out there in the "Blog World"?  Hope well.

Our local 2012 Relay For Life event has concluded, not without incident.  Had severe Lightning/Rainstorm Friday night.  It canceled our Luminaria event and ran everyone off the field for several hours.  After returning to the field, tents were found destroyed, items missing and thankfully, no personal injuries.

Daylilies, yes daylilies.  Want to thank David for his daylily purchase.

Have several blooming cultivars:  Stella de Oro and Butterscotch Ruffles.  Both very good reblooming specimen.  Pick some up today at OAKVILLE FARM.

Hope you have a good day and until next time, Happy Gardening.

Gardening is about enjoying the smell of things growing in the soil, getting dirty without feeling guilty, and generally taking the time to soak up a little peace and serenity.  ~Lindley Karstens

Oakville Farm blog, yes here we are.  A good place to share thoughts and ideas about daylilies, outdoors, flowers.  You might see daylily photos, farm photos, posters or more.  Hope you will visit our blog as often as you can.  You never know what you might see.

If you have any thoughts or ideas on what you would like to see here at Oakville Farm blog, shoot us a note.  Love to hear from you.

Was asked last week, why refer to areas in the outdoors as "gardens".  So started thinking about that ... other words used to describe gardens could be ... outdoors, park, soil, plot, lawn, cultivated area, arena.   Whatever the word,  hope you are able to get out and enjoy.  When traveling, look for a botanical garden to visit, or a park to walk thru.  As I say so many times, please take time for outdoors.

Check out our site, OAKVILLE FARM, to see what daylilies are available.  All field grown.  Dug up, right here on site.   Thanks to David for visiting us yesterday.

Hope you have a good day and until next time, Happy Gardening.

PS   We proudly support Relay For Life, American Cancer Society.  Our Relay theme for this year is "Somewhere Over The Rainbow ... there's a CURE!"  One never knows who will become stricken with cancer or when.  Funding for cancer research is so important.  A hope is that one day there will be a cure for cancers.  And so many cancers there are.  We are promoting information on Kidney Cancer.   Our event begins today and concludes tomorrow at noon.

Until next time ......

"The world's favorite season is the spring.
All things seem possible in May."

-  Edwin Way Teale

Yes, May, the month of May, is here.  Again, where have the four previous months gone?  Oh my.

This month is a pivotal time for growing season.  More rain/less rain?  Winds/calmness?  Heat/coolness?  We average about 4 inches of rain this month.  Temps average 78 high to 57 low.  All just perfect for growing your vegetable garden or flower garden.  Daylilies certainly thrive under these conditions.  Here in Zone 7, north central North Carolina, greenery abounds.  All of our daylilies are up and thriving.  Have had about 3 1/4" of rain in past week.  Just perfect.

Check out our website, OAKVILLE FARM to see what daylily offerings we have.  From short to tall, red to white, from extra early to late season bloomers, we have a great variety.

Hope you have a good day and until next time, Happy Gardening.
